Wrangell

FISHERMAN, FISH SMOKER AND TRADER, SMALL BUSINESS OWNER

I was born in Telegraph Creek, and my mother came down the river and moved to Wrangell when I was a year old. I go to Telegraph every summer, usually in July, when they’re doing their fisheries.

I love anacaga (dry fish). This is what everyone wants. I have a barber shop in town, and when I come back from Telegraph, people come in all the time trying to buy this. It’s like gold.

It’s awful being away from the water. Even just the smell of the ocean is great, because it offers a lot. I hardly ever go to the store to buy a chicken, because everything’s here in the water. The water provides it all.
